Security

The computer may ask. The chip decides.

Novubase assumes the computer at the other end of the cable can be careless or compromised. The device is built so that a signature still requires the round screen and a button under your thumb.

Creation

The private key is generated on the chip during setup. It is not imported from a file on the laptop, and it is not reconstructed from a screenshot.

Display

The host can send a request. It cannot choose the pixels. The chip lays out the destination and the amount on the round screen.

Consent

A signature leaves the chip only after the right button is pressed. The left button drops the request. Closing the cable drops it too.

What the screen is for

People trust the window that is largest. On a hardware wallet that habit is the failure. Novubase makes the trusted window small and round, and puts it on the object that holds the key. If the laptop window and the device disagree, the device is the one you believe.

A home view can show a holding already kept by the chip. That view is a reading of the device, not a page from somewhere else. The device page includes one photograph of that home view.

The phrase

The 24 words are a backup of the key, shown once on the screen at setup. They are meant for paper. A note in a photo library, a mail draft, or a password manager on the same computer the reader uses is another copy in the place Novubase is trying to leave.

Infinite Business & Event Solutions, Inc. will not ask for the phrase. A message that does — by email, by phone, or by a site that looks like novubase.com — is not from this company. Check the address bar and the Cypress address on the about page before you answer anyone.

What this page does not claim

A hardware wallet reduces a specific risk: that a private key lives in a general-purpose computer. It does not remove every risk. A phrase written down and then left in a scanned notebook is still a copy. A request confirmed without reading the glass is still a signature. The device is there so the reading has a honest place to happen.

More of the reasoning is in the briefings.
